Pasadena Pacers General Information

How do I sign up for the Pasadena Pacers? There are no forms to fill out. There is no paperwork and there are no fees. Just show up and get acquainted with our programs.

Do we run when it rains ? Yes, we meet rain or shine. We have been meeting every Saturday for since 1996.

Where do you meet? Our main meeting location is at the Rose Bowl but there are weekends where we are not allowed to use the parking facilities. We meet at the Rose Bowl in the Southernmost end of lot "I" at 7:00 A.M. on Saturday mornings. On the weekends when there are UCLA games we cannot use the Rose Bowl. Our alternate meeting location is at Garfield Park in South Pasadena.

When do you meet? We meet 5 times per week. The long runs are on Saturday mornings at 7:00 A.M. We meet at the Rose Bowl in the Southernmost end of lot "I" on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. on Saturday mornings. We meet on Sunday Mornings at Griffith Park at either the Gene Autry Museum or at Ferndell park. The Sunday runs are usually at 8:00 A.M. please keep your eye on the Yahoo Groups for the sunday run information. Coach Ezra and Michelle Vance coordinate these runs. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. for our performance coaching sessions. These personal coaching sessions are with coach Armand Crespo and there is a $40.00 per month fee. If you want to run faster than ever before, qualify for Boston or have a goal you want to achieve, Coach Armand will get you there!

What about Parking? We have great parking facilities available to us but there are some limitations. The parking nearest to the park is leased to the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. The parking spaces that are north of the restrooms are ok to park in. Please do not park in the Aquatic Center parking spaces. There are many swimmers coming and going to the pool and they get cold and wet. When they finish their workouts, they want to get in the car as soon as possible. Also, many of the swimmers are children and their parents are anxious to get them to safety. We can quickly wear out our welcome by parking in the wrong place!

The Pacers is a free running club but there are a couple of things that make it free. We need volunteers to set up water stations on the weekend runs. Please volunteer for a water station during one of your runs. Those 18 milers take a lot of time to set up but this job is easy if everyone does a fair share. Robert Dunn will send out a request for a volunteers over the Yahoo Groups. Please respond early in the week so he doesn't have to keep his attention on it. We need nutrition and juice at the tables for after the runs. Louise Clark will send out a request for bagels, fruit and juice every week. Again, please volunteer to bring snacks and a prompt response makes her job a lot easier.

Please purchase and wear a Pacers shirt. The Pacer red lets us know who you are. When you wear your red shirt you'll feel like a team player. We give hearty support for our team, especially at the race events. When fellow team mates see your Pacer red they generally go nuts and cheer you on!

Sign up for the Yahoo Groups. This is the main communication line for the Pacers. We send out important messages every week that keep you up to date on who is doing the water stations, where we are going to meet and any changes to the schedule. The Yahoo groups is for general information so please do not send out personal communications. If you have a personal message that does not concern the entire group, use the right click and hit "reply to sender" so the we don't have to wade through a bunch of superfluous E-mails. Heavy unnecessary Yahoo Groups traffic is the number one reason why people unsubscribe from the group. You are invited to join the Pacers on Facebook and chat all you want but no commercial promotion will be allowed.

Contribute to the green can. We have some expenses for the group. There are little things that pop up during the year that have to be funded. If we get enough in the green can, we can sponsor your coaches for race entry expenses. We also like to have enough in the green can to throw a victory part at the end of the season.

Please run in single file around the corners and around curves in the road! If we practice good safety and are polite to the neighbors we will always be welcome to run the neighborhoods around the Rose Bowl. Also, please obey traffic laws. Running red lights can lead to accidents and irritate the locals.

Please watch out for bicycle traffic around to Rose Bowl. Bikes cannot make sudden stops or direction changes. They are relying on you to follow the rules of the road. Keep a constant lookout for bikes while running on the roads. Runners are one of their greatest hazards! If you are going to make a sudden lurch out into the road, please don't wear your Pacers shirt!

Advertising for personal gain is not allowed in the Pacers. If you have an agenda and you are trying to use the Pacers to promote your business please pick another venue.

Please give and receive encouragement and admiration from your fellow runners and to all whom you come in contact with. It is our goal to lift the spirits and fitness of the community. Saying kind words to others will help them achieve their true potential and it will help you realize your true power. A smile and a hearty greeting costs nothing but it may be priceless to someone who receives it!!

Where can I find the training schedules? You can find training schedules on the web site.

I have more questions, where can I get an answer? We are happy to answer all of your questions and help you with your running goals. Many of your questions have been answered on the web site, www.pasadenapacers.org. Please take a few minutes to look at the website before sending E-mails to your coaches and leaders. They are all volunteers so let's be respectful of their time.
